USA Today published more fake news today, because they care more about pushing an agenda than reporting actual news. El Paso, Dayton make 251 mass shootings in the US in 216 days, more shootings than days in the year is beyond misleading that it’s nearly criminal to report such fraudulent news.
Their article is based on Gun Violence Archive’s statistics, where they pull data from ALL types of shootings. Injuries are included in the statistics, it does not only record incidents that have a death. They define mass shootings as, “…if four or more people are shot or killed in a single incident, not involving the shooter, that incident is categorized as a mass shooting based purely on that numerical threshold.”
That includes Defensive Gun Use (DGU) scenarios, where a homeowner may kill 4 or more criminals. Or a robbery where the robber shoots/kills 3 people but then the clerk or a licensed concealed carry shooter shoots or kills the shooter. Or gang shootings where 4+ people may injure each other but not actually kill anyone. People don’t have to die to be included in the “mass shooting” statistics they publish. If someone was grazed by a bullet in the shooting, that’s included as well since it’s an injury.
To be fair, I’m not surprised that USA Today published such a blatantly irresponsible piece of journalism. After all, they are the creators of the infamous “Chainsaw Bayonet” picture. They tried their best to make AR-15s appear super terrifying, but ended up spawning thousands of memes instead. Personally, I’m a big fan of the Avocado Toast attachment.
The news in general have been making massive pushes on their gun control agenda for years now. Facts don’t matter to them, just the agenda.
Last year, CNN had a segment where their military analyst, Lt. Gen. Mark Hertling, referred to AR-15s as “full semi-automatic” weapons and they mentioned “machine gun magazines.”
In 2016, Huffington Post published a hilarious article by a sportswriter titled, “Stop Saying AR-15s Aren’t Assault Rifles.” This article feature gems such as:

This time, it was technically a Sig Sauer MCX, but it’s in the same classification of gun. It’s a category of weapon called “military” or “assault rifles.”
They love to rope in AR-15s any chance they get, even if the weapon used in the shooting wasn’t an AR-15

It’s designed to reload quickly, and it’s rated for full auto fire—their words, not mine.
Becuase in case the first 50 rounds that went into the deer didn’t do the job, you need to be able to dump another 50 into him fast, or Bambi might get away.
Because we all know the 2nd Amendment was strictly about hunting and shooting deer. The misspelling in that quote is on Huffington Post’s end
He does on to argue that AR-15s should be deemed “assault rifles” because of this:
Do you think those victims feel any less “assaulted” because they weren’t “technically” shot by an assault weapon?
Well, I’m sold based on that logic!
I could give more examples, but you get the gist. The mainstream media is saturated with fake news, and people eat it up. As gun owners, we need to step it up and counter every bit of fake news with as much logic and facts as we can. You might change a mind or two.
