We’ve all heard, “no one needs an AR-15!” from anti-gun politicians and trolls online. We beg to differ, and we’ve even wrote an article that provide reasons why AR-15s are excellent weapons for home defense. If you need real examples to bolster your argument, then we’ve got you covered.
Back in 2010, a 15-year-old-boy successfully defended himself and his 12-year-old-sister when a pair of burglars broke into their home. Their father is a Harris County deputy in Houston, TX so the boy grabbed their father’s AR-15 and fired on the intruders. One intruder, a 17-year-old named Kinzy Evans was shot three times but survived, while the other intruder was a 16 year old who was not injured.
In 2013, an armed criminal named Jasper Brisbon broke into an apartment. The inhabitant of the apartment grabbed an AR-15 and warned the criminal to stop. The intruder didn’t listen so he shot the intruder in the torso once. The criminal died and even the District Attorney admitted that the victim was most likely justified.
Perhaps one of the most frequently cited examples, a 23-year-old-man protected himself from three intruders with an AR-15 in 2017. Three teenagers, between the ages of 16 to 19, were dressed in all black and kicked down the back door of the home. The victim defended himself by firing on the intruders, killing all three. The 21-year-old female getaway driver outside was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and three counts of burglary while the victim was not charged. If this isn’t a clear-cut example of why an AR-15 is an excellent weapon for defending oneself, then I don’t know what is.
Another recent famous example is the mass shooting at a Baptist church in Sutherland, TX in 2017. While the gunman managed to kill 26 people, he was confronted by a lawful gun owner that had his own AR-15. The gunman quickly dropped his weapon and fled after the hero shot at him. The kicker is that the hero was a former NRA firearm instructor.
Yet another well-known case of self-defense with an AR-15 is a man defending himself from a drive-by shooting in Houston, TX in 2017. He was minding his own business when a car drove by and started shooting. The day before the drive-by, someone had attempted to set the house on fire so the man was on high alert. The man quickly grabbed his AR-15 and fired back at the vehicle. After all was said and done, over 40 rounds were exchanged between both parties but somehow, the victim wasn’t hit once. In the end, he killed two and injured one. With the standard capacity of an AR-15 being 30 rounds, he may have died if he didn’t have that ammo available.
There are actually more than 5 examples of AR-15s being used defensively, which can be found with simple internet searches. But you won’t see any gun control advocates going through with that because it would put a pin in their agenda.
